We happened to have $5 and ordered 2 veggie tacos on the fly. Delicious! Authentic Mexican tacos in a soft shell. Slightly crispy on the edges. Perfect pico. So good. We will definitely be back!

When I say "hole in the wall" I really mean Lorena's Kitchen is really a hole in the wall.
You order from a small window....there is not a restaurant to sit or stand. You just wait on the street for your meal...and by the looks of all the people waiting on the Street Lorena's must be doing something right.
Simple menu serving tacos e' Burritos everything looked delicious.
Try one of their popsicles....very uniuqe flavors. -

It's a cute little window operation (no seating), but that's ok because there are some places nearby to eat.
I got three black bean tamales, which were perfect with the verde salsa on top (it's hot, careful!). Super fresh and moist, and you should definitely go there also because the veggie tamales are incredibly affordable.
They also have burritos and other items on the menu. It's cash only! The folks inside are very sweet and you can tell that it's an honest business. Oh my heart! -

Even though it's not a vegetarian restaurant and I'm vegetarian, I had the best veggie tacos in all the land here today. Lorena thanks for the amazing cooking and creativity and for sharing that with us Seattleites!

Wow! So happy this little stand opened in my neighborhood. Located at 12th Ave S and S Bailey Street, next to Ciudad, Lorena's is a cash-only tamale and taco stand with frozen yoghurt in the warmer months.
I love love love a good tamale! Tamales are protein fillings wrapped in corn and masa polenta, then wrapped in corn husk or other leaf and steamed. It's all about balance and preparation; good flavor in the filling, but not so much that the earthy masa/corn flavor is overwhelmed. Too much fat, and the tamale becomes gooey, too little and it's crumbly and dry. As a rule, treat the meat filling right and put the right amount of moisture in the corn mix, and wrap it tightly enough so that the filling gets hot and the masa cooks into an almost flesh-like polenta when it's steamed, and you have a good tamale.
I ordered a chicken, a pork verde, and a pork mole tamale. The preparation on the chicken and verde was classic, wrapped in corn husk, but the mole was wrapped in banana leaf, which adds a distinctive "green" aroma and flavor, and traps almost too much moisture, but it totally works.
Lorena's got it right! The fillings were flavorful, the masa steamed to polenta perfection, the banana leaf kicking up the deep, earthy flavor of the mole filling another notch. These are delicious, memorable, cravable tamales, worth going out of your way for!
Missing star is for cash-only operation, which is just silly in this day and age (though I understand they've only been open a month, and not everything comes together all at once). Hopefully, they will be able to take phone-in orders and offer delivery soon.
Highly recommended!
